biography.
Heike Patault, born in 1979 in Oldenburg, Germany, is a conceptual abstract artist living in Pays de la Loire, France. She earned a Diploma in Automotive Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne in 2004 and a Master of Fine Art from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2019. Patault is known for her works on paper such as detailed drawings and collages, formally based on diagrams, formulas, and mathematical principles, as well as the second law of thermodynamics. Each piece results from an extensive process of taking notes, recording, calculations, scientific explorations and research, which is meticulously documented in notebooks and Excel files. She works with drawing and collages using regularly cut-up photo squares as well as printed colour fields.
Patault's work focuses on capturing the essence of different places at specific times. She believes that every place leaves an impression on us, just as we leave our mark on every place we visit. Her important projects include the film photography series "A la Recherche du Temps Perdu" (2019), which was part of her MFA, and two series called "Inventarium I" (2021-2022) and "Inventarium II" (2023), where she illustrated her observations in a forest and at a highway station. She is currently working on a project where she digitally travels 13,115 kilometers from a highway station to Mount Fuji using Google Streetview, noting every kilometer of the journey.
Heike Patault has participated in notable portfolio reviews such as Photo Zurich in Switzerland and Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles, France. She won the Photo of the Month award from Kunsthalle Hamburg in Germany. She is a member of the Visual Arts Association in the UK, the Kunstverein in Heidelberg, Germany, as well as Les Amis des Beaux-Arts in Paris, contributing to the contemporary art scene.
